Musical Theatre: Technical Theatre, Set Design

Nate Bertone is a New York City based theatrical storyteller.  As a storyteller, Nate works across the country as a director, set designer, playwright, and producer. He believes that creating art is about understanding each other in ways deeper than we ever have before.  For that reason, as an educator, Nate aims to introduce his students to storytelling techniques that expand their creative toolbox and inspire the idea that art exists at the intersections.

As a director, Nate can often be found collaborating with writers on original works.  Most recently, he has directed premiere productions of Polkadots: The Cool Kids Musical in Pittsburgh, Vermont and Cincinnati, Entangled in Massachusetts, and his new musical Letters From War at North Shore Music Theatre.

As a designer, his most recent work includes: Broadway Sacramento at Music Circus: Singin’ in the Rain, Disney’s Newsies, and Mamma Mia. Arizona Broadway Theatre: Titanic, and The Addams Family. North Shore Music Theatre: Shrek, and Sister Act. Engeman Theatre: Gypsy, Once, A Gentleman’s Guide To Love and Murder. He has often assisted Tony Award-Winning Designer, Beowulf Boritt on productions including Superhero (Second Stage), A Bronx Tale (Broadway), Murder For Two (Second Stage) and the Susan Stroman-helmed Crazy for You (Lincoln Center).

Nate has taught and directed students at Cap21/Molloy College, The Boston Architectural College, ExpressYourself, and with ArtsConnection across New York City. He has proudly served as the Director of New Play Development at the former Salem Theatre Co. Nate is the Founder/Leader of the Art Therapy-based program, Discover Here, recently partnered with lululemon in NYC. He is a former Dean’s Scholar at Central Saint Martins in London, England, and alumnus of Carnegie Mellon University.
